The one about a School Project

Welcome back fellow DIY-ers!!

Welcome to my first graphic design post!

I wanted to share with you some recent projects I have done for school, and eventually get caught up on past assignments.

I am very lucky to have an awesome supportive boyfriend who motivated me to go back to school and get my degree. I have found that I truly love creating things. Whether it is with paper, wood, the computer, paint, or whatever else; creating something new, updating something, or changing the use of something is a really fun, motivating and satisfying experience for me.

I have been luck to be able to create some items outside of school assignments as well. I have done invitations for a wedding, bridal shower and baby showers, a wedding program and other items. Some of those you can see in my portfolio link (near the top of the page) and I will share all of those here soon as well.

This semester I have done my first little animations in Adobe After Effects and Photoshop and that is what I want to share with you today.

Future animated videos will be uploaded to my Vimeo account here.

The one introducing our Kitchen and Dining Area

Welcome back fellow DIY-ers!!

Welcome to THE room that led us to buying this house!

The Boyfriend and I had been looking at some homes that were going to need a lot of work in the kitchen. During that time we really talked about what items and colors we would put in if we needed to completely gut the kitchen.

We had decided on white cabinets, stainless appliances and dark-ish granite counters.

Welcome to the picture that started it all:
Helllllllllooooooooo my dream kitchen!

The rest of the pictures on the listing for this house were less than ideal. Well it worked out well for us! We figured with this kitchen the rest of the place would be worth seeing. And we fell in love with it the first time we saw it!
Well, the stone fireplaces and the 2 acres of land helped too ;)

The only thing I didn't like was the green.
The Boyfriend loved it... but I won :)

Behr's Teal Zeal it is!!!

Something about teal and white together really makes me happy.
And happy is a good thing when you are cooking, which normally does not make me happy. I'm working on it...

To get this color, we actually ordered Teal Zeal at 75%!
Who knew they could even do this?

I went to the paint counter with my dilemma that color "A" was too dark and color "B" was too light and other paint chips were the wrong shades.

but they are all the wrong shade in my hair!

They told me I could order a color at half darkness, 50%, or any other percentage.
How perfect!!! They really should advertise this more!
Harley likes to supervise.

The room is also the dining area. The house doesn't have a formal dining room.
which we don't mind at all.

So the teal will get accented with a spring green (which I am also using to accent the living room) and a little bit of yellow from the living room to bring both rooms together.

So I have my perfect teal kitchen
:)

And you can see the hutch over there on that wall? It didn't look like that when I bought it. Look for that post next Monday!

As all the room, still lots more to do but I love it already!!

Also here is a little preview of my next to-do in the kitchen/dining area. Any guess what it will be?

The one with the new Chandelier

Welcome back fellow DIY-ers!!

The entryway of our house was one of the major wins for us.
A - I wanted some sort of semi-formal entry way into the house
B - It has some super awesome exposed brick that I just fell in love with
You saw a little preview of it here.

What I did not like was the teeny tiny light fixture that was in there.
And a couple other things that are on the list for next year, like a new railing,
refinishing the stairs and a new paint color!

As a housewarming, The Boyfriend's Mom took us to Lowes to pick out a new Chandelier. How nice of her :)

The one about our Living Room

Welcome back fellow DIY-ers!!

Our living room. The place with the newest and oldest furniture!
Which makes decorating a little challenging.

also meet our cat Harley-Quinn or just Harley. sitting on the coffee table.

When we moved in, the entry way, upstairs hall and the living room were all tangerine. Yes, tangerine. We found the paint chip, called tangerine.

So the orange had to go! It really competed with the fireplace which we wanted to be the focal point of the room.

I like cool neutrals = grays
The Boyfriend likes warm neutrals = browns
We met in the middle = greige

The color is called Studio Taupe by Behr.

The one with throw back Thursday Crafts

Welcome back fellow DIY-ers!!

While my craft room is still in the unpacking/painting shelves/hanging things stage I haven't had a chance to really do any creating in there yet.

Right now my go to crafting involves painting everything in sight. But, since I have a love of all things paper, I want to share some projects I have done before the big move.

Some of these I had shared on my old blog, some are new to you, but they are all my favorites for one reason or another.

So welcome to Throw Back Thursday Crafts!
Yeah, cheesy I know, but what can I say?

I plan to do this 2 or 3 times a month. I might share one project, or two, or three. Depends on my mood.
And how much homework I have that week taking me away from my blogging time

So for today it is all about Cards

This card I did in May for The Boyfriend's college graduation. The school colors are blue and gold. I used a Krylon pen around the edges and a Viva pearl pen to do the dots. I used a stampin up embossing folder and the numbers are from a stamp set that the company name escapes me right now (and they are still packed so I can't go look...)

The one with an intro to my Craft Studio

Welcome back fellow DIY-ers!!

While I am still finishing up other projects to share, I wanted to also share some before/after pictures of what changing the paint color can really do for a room!

Yes the before pic is horrible. There was nothing about this room that needed to be
documented other than it existed.

The room we determined would be my craft studio was this dark, ugly taupe, un-inspiring color. It was the only room I knew 100% what color I wanted before we actually moved in.
It is also the only room (other than an addition) that has carpet... not ideal for the craft room but I wanted the bigger room :)

I had a purple craft room at the apartment and LOVED it. It was nice and bright and fun which was the attitude I wanted while I was working in there.

But I didn't want the same exact color again.

The one where I re-do a lamp.. Twice!

Welcome back fellow DIY-ers!!

I am going to try to post some mini-projects inbetween the big reveals on Mondays
Until I run out of things to post that is!

So way back when I first moved out on my own, I got some hand-me down items like most people do. One thing I got was my Grandma's brass lamp. Here is it's story of being redone not once, but twice!
